In a stunning turn of events over the last month or so, Air Emu’s US branch has entered liquidation. The trouble originated with a refund glitch that meant every single customer who had taken an Air Emu flight during a specific week was refunded. Mass hysteria ensued with millions of people taking advantage of the free airfare. As a result, many Air Emu flights had to be cancelled and tickets were not honoured for a period after the initial week. Air Emu did not release any statements acknowledging the issue and refused to comment when we reached out to them.
Many criticised Air Emu’s non-responsive nature and felt they should honour the tickets. Others remarked that those complaining about not getting their free flights were “lazy freeloaders and probably impotent.” Air Emu US’s stock values plummeted as a result of the company’s silence and financial losses. Speaking of which, the true nature of their losses is still under wraps. Some sources indicate that they only lost a paltry sum and that business was still booming. Other sources indicate that their losses could be in the hundreds-of-millions range.
Regardless, Air Emu’s stock values dropped by over 55%; reaching a historic low. This initiated a mass exodus of shareholders that spiralled out of control. The remaining shareholders approved a liquidation of the US branch’s remaining assets. Many industry experts, and average citizens, called this move “clearly bad” and “the definition of nonsensical.” Air Emu International was largely unaffected by this and still thrives throughout the world.
After 59 years in service, Air Emu’s US operations are no more.
